It is common knowledge in the spiritual community that we are all affected by energy. That is why it is so important to ground and shield. Spiritual practitioners and non-spiritual practitioners are affected by foreign energies. The difference is that we’re aware of it and take measures to protect ourselves from it.
But we are not bulletproof. No matter how thick your energetic protection is foreign energy will get through. It is next to impossible and unhealthy to have our guard up 24/7. This is why regular spiritual cleansing has to be part of your spiritual maintenance.

Holding onto foreign energy takes a lot of work. It’s heavy. It blocks our personal energy from flourishing. It is extra weight added to our already heavy shoulders.
If you are feeling constantly drained and tired, if you are waking up tired, if you are struggling to get off the couch and be productive this is a good sign that you are carrying around energies that don’t belong to you.
It is important to evaluate your calendar, your mental health, and to take into consideration outside factors such as having young children, mental health disorders like ADHD or AuDHD and your existing boundaries.
It’s time to make your health a priority and take back your personal power. Take it slow. A cleansing salt scrub 3 days in a row will make sure to bust through that extra energy you want to rid yourself of.
Let your support group know what you are going through and call on them for help if needed. It’s ok to lean on others and accept help.
All of us with children know what it’s like sending your child to daycare or school for the first time. Every week is met with a new sickness that runs its way through the house.
If you are finding yourself sick more often than not and don’t have kids passing it to you then you may be holding on to foreign energies. Maintaining our own personal energy while fighting off foreign energy takes a ton of energy. It can affect your sleep cycles, your mental health, and your physical health.

According to the mayo clinic health system, caffeine can provide relief for a headache. This increase blood flow pressures surrounding nerves, which send pain messages to the brain. According to healthine.com Magnesium is a major mineral that’s vital for maintaining nerve function, blood pressure, and muscle function. Deficiency of magnesium has been linked to mild and moderate headaches and migraine.
When I am bogged down with heavy energy I tend to isolate myself. Replying to text messages, emails, and phone calls are one of the first things to go when I am not feeling like myself. I recognize it as an attempt to conserve my energy but it is also blocking me from accessing my support group.
Holding onto heavy energy or foreign energy can be insidious. It creeps up slowly until it overpowers us and alters our thoughts. If you are feeling the need to stay indoors and hibernate this may be your sign to do some heavy cleansing rituals.
Often simply being with the people you love can help shift that energy. Laugh, force yourself to be with your support group. Even a quiet movie marathon can do wonders.
Go swimming or chill in a hot tub with your favourite people. Water is a phenomenal cleansing tool. When you step into the pool make the intention that it will cleanse off any heavy energy that is no longer supporting you.
Disassociating is a medical term used to describe the feeling of being disconnected from your body or the world around you. For example, you may feel detached from your body or feel as though the world around you is unreal. Or like you’re watching your life happen from the backseat.
More common is the need to disassociate in our every day lives. Disappearing into your phone is a very common way to disassociate. Staring at nothing and just letting your mind be is another example.
If the feeling or the need to disassociate is a common occurrence in your everyday life this could be a sign that you are energetically cluttered. It’s time to cleanse off the overwhelming amount of crappy energy that you have accumulated.
If you have a family and need time to disassociate it’s okay to verbally state this to your partner and take a few minutes to recenter yourself and just be without interuption. Calling upon your support group is also a good option.
Those with ADHD are very familiar with executive dysfunction. This is the inability to make a decision. It’s a feeling as if the weight of the world is on your shoulders and no matter how hard you try you can not make a decision. It’s overwhelming and crippling.
Having too much discordant energy in your aura leads to this symptom. There’s so much fighting data and information that you can not focus and all seems overwhelming. Your mind is going a mile a minute.
It’s time to shed all that energy that no longer serve you for good. So much of that conflicting energies are necessary.
List making is a powerful tool to use while you’re experiencing executive dysfunction. You can begin by writing all the thoughts in your head. Every single one. It’ll give you a visual tool to see what exactly you can leave behind. This is a powerful exercise for any cleansing spell.
A cluttered aura can present itself with insomnia as a symptom. When I wake up in the middle of the night with my thoughts racing for hours I’ll make sure to do a big cleanse the next day.
Let’s say you’ve walked past protestors. They’re using their anger, their fear to make a statement. You’ll pick up some of that and those emotions will trigger your emotions. What areas in life cause you anger or fear?

Tricks I use to help me fall asleep when I have insomnia nights include changing locations, yoga Nidra, ASMR playlists, guided meditations, and temperature control.
The vagus nerve is one of 12 cranial nerves in the body. It's responsible for various bodily functions, including digestion, heart rate, and breathing. I once saw a video about how if this nerve is activated it’ll be next to impossible to fall asleep. My first go to when I am in a state of insomnia is to grab an ice pack and sleep with it over my heart centre. 9/10 it has done the trick.
Sometimes just switching to the couch can make a world of difference. Especially if I am tossing and turning. Leaving the bed will help me relax because I don’t have to worry about waking up my partner as well.
Yoga Nidra and guided meditations for sleep is a powerful tool. It’s the process of focusing on every individual part of body and relaxing those parts. I like to work from my feet to my head.
I also find it very helpful to listen to some ASMR playlists that trigger the tingles up and down my spine. That helps me focus on a sensation other than my racing thoughts.
Sometimes I don’t want to do anything. No matter what I think of everything is unappealing and all I want to do is nothing. If you are feeling constantly bored and unable to motivate yourself this could be a sign that you are in need of a spiritual cleanse.
Forcing yourself to do anything that’ll boost your dopamine can help you shed some of those heavy energies. I tend to force myself to dance to some good music. Learning a dance move will work too. This is how I poorly learnt how to do a shuffle dance.
If you are struggling to find a zest in life chances are you are in need of a good cleanse. It is incredible what a well intentioned shower can do for you.
Speaking Before You Think
Communication is the key to all relationships in your life. It is also the key to breaking relationships. If you are using your words to hurt others, interupting or speaking out of turn this could be a sign that you are in need of a spiritual cleanse.
Words are powerful, but if you keep putting your foot in your mouth it can have long lasting affects on your relationships. carrying communication stones on you can help, but unless you find out why you are feeling the need to use your words like a sword you’ll only be putting a band aid on the problem.

Negative Thinking and Mood Swings
Being trapped in a negative thought spiral is something we can all relate to. We all know that feeling of going reliving a bad situation over and over again in your head. The big problem is that it causes a chemical feedback loop in our bodies.
The brain sends to the body that it’s feeling bad so the body produces chemicals that make you feel bad. In turn our body feeling bad causes our brains to continue focusing on how bad it feels.
A deep cleanse can help you break this cycle. It forces your mind to focus on something external, something that you can control. Once of my favourite ways to interrupt this feedback loop is with movement, art or writing.
Write down everything about how you feel. How bad you feel, how it feels in your body. The fears and anger that comes up with it. The shame. Feeling trapped in this emotion. Write it all down.
I promise you’ll begin to feel better.
If you go anywhere outside of your home you are constantly around foreign energies. It takes a lot of work and energy to protect yourself from absorbing it and often times a small amount gets through our defences.
